Microsofts Malicious Software Removal Tool

by M4g on Mar.10, 2009, under Windows XP

With my last Windows XP update I recognized again, that there is a maleware tool provided by Microsoft within WinXP. After the update I would like to try out these new tool to see what it is exactly and how it works. The intuitive search in the programms menue was not successfull. After some google search I found out how to run these tool manually, which I want to share here. Its quite easy you just need to know the command. You just need to go to the “Run” input and type “mrt” (without “).

Start -> Run -> "mrt"

After that the tool is started and you will see the see GUI where you can choose what kind of scanning you want to perform.
And another “secret” is disclosed.

Eclipse and Tex

by M4g on Jan.12, 2009, under Development

eclipse150px-tex_logosvg

I used TeXnic center to write my latex documents for quite a while. Then I tried Texclipse, a plugin which allows to create tex files with the eclipse IDE.

What you need to get started is:
1. Eclipse (here)
2. MiKTeX-Distribution (here)
3. TeXclips Plugin (here)

Installation is quite easy. Start with downloading Eclipse (here: Version 3.4.1) and extract the files to the location your programms normally are.
Then download and install MiKTeX if you haven’t already installed this.
Last step is start eclipse and install the TeXclipse plugin. Just go to “Help” -> “Software Updates”. Then select the tab “Available Software” and click “Add Site” on the right. Enter “http://texlipse.sourceforge.net/” as URL. After that select the plugin and click “Installe” on the upper right. An installation guide can also be found here.

Have fun with writing your tex based documents.

NetBeans and SVN+SSH

by M4g on Jan.12, 2009, under PHP Development

As I think a lot of people will run into that problem. Here the solution, how to get it running.
I found a solution for Eclipse at the site of Martin Woodward. For NetBeans it works pretty much the same. Here the solution in short (with password for SSH and not key file)

1. Download and install TortoiseSVN.
2. Set the following environment variable:
Variable name: SVN_SSH
Variable value: C:\\Program Files\\TortoiseSVN\\bin\\TortoisePlink.exe (Yes, “\\” is needed)

Restart NetBeans and it should work properly. thanks to Woodwardweb for that solution.

Eclipse PDT vs. Netbeans IDE for PHP

by M4g on Jan.11, 2009, under PHP Development

Up to now I used Eclipse PHP Development Tools (PDT) for my projects. Then, recently, I recognized that with NetBeans IDE for PHP another Open-Source-IDE is available. If you only download the PHP part of the IDE, NetBeans IDE for PHP has about 26MB. A complete download including also Java, C/C++ and Ruby has about 249MB.

After the first tests I started to really like NetBeans, despite I am missing some features of the PDT.
The block comment feature of PDT (CTRL+SHIFT+7) is at the moment not available in NetBeans. Perhaps this feature will be integrated.
On the other side, the collaboration functions of NetBeans would quite nice to have in PDT. I have several trouble with SVN support in both tools. The Subclipse plugin used in Eclipse is working, but sometimes not properly. Also in NetBeans SVN is not working with svn+ssh. Will write another blog if I found a solution.

For now I will further use NetBeans IDE for my PHP projects to be able to make further experiences with Sun’s IDE.
Will post my more detailed impressions in a further blog.
